Adiabatic cooling
Air inlet or adiabatic cooling is suitable for controlling the temperature in larger spaces or halls. This is a sustainable, clean and simple method of cooling. It is more cost-efficient than traditional air conditioning because it eliminates the need for coolants or heavy consumption of power. Many facilities or processes in hot, dry areas can use spray nozzles to cool down intake air, e.g., for the often very mission-critical cooling of electronic server rooms or spaces housing livestock.

What is adiabatic cooling?
Air inlet or adiabatic cooling is also referred to as evaporation cooling because it uses the evaporation of water to reduce the temperature of the air. The energy required for evaporation is extracted from the air, as a result of which the air cools down. Adiabatic cooling will also ensure an increased efficiency of equipment, such as gas turbines or air-cooled condensers, by cooling the air and increasing the relative humidity of the intake air flowing to these units. In many applications, BETE spray nozzles can provide an effective and economical alternative to electric cooling machines.

Types of spray nozzles and atomizers for adiabatic cooling
Turbine Inlet Air Cooling (TIAC) is used typically in dry areas with high temperatures throughout the year or seasonally to improve the efficiency of power generation. In summer, when the demand for electricity is at its highest, the lower density of dry air at high temperatures can reduce the generation of power up to 30 % below nominal capacity. Regaining lost efficiency can be achieved by increasing the air density through evaporation cooling. Using the right atomizer spray nozzles ensures that the droplets evaporate entirely before they come into contact with the turbine blades.
BETE offers air cooling atomizers which have been designed for the most challenging environments. Our turbine inlet cooling spray nozzles are available with an optional safety wire device. Our atomizers are designed to function at great pressure differences to produce small droplet sizes and to increase cooling efficiency.
