The volume of water vapor that the air can hold can vary significantly with temperature and pressure; warm air can hold more water vapor than cold air. Therefore, humidity is often expressed as relative humidity, which compares the actual amount of water vapor in the air to what the air can hold under the current environmental conditions of temperature and pressure.
